Week 13 Part A: Online Advertising - Analysis of the Marketplace

Look for examples of advertising or sponsored posts on FaceBook, Instagram and other social media. What draws your attention? What is their call to action? Do they use imagery and is it effective? Which ads are annoying? If you click on their link what did it go to?

What was funny as I was scrolling through Instagram I came across a lot of game ads which is funny cause I really don't play games or even interact with game ads so it was pretty funny seeing so many. Most of them looked like ads and had no real appeal, except for one. I like planes so the one ad that caught my eye was a photo of a plane, which at first I though it was like some sort of airline ad but no it wasn't it was a game ad. Out of all of them that was the only one that caught my attention. Most of their call to actions were install now, which for me personally I never press buttons like those, I know that they have been most likely vetted by Apple and the App Store but I still don't like pressing those buttons. A couple of the ads were photos and some were video, the ones that I looked at longer were the video ads. I didn't find any ads annoying but what does get annoying is when I see the same ad over and over again which does get tiring. When I clicked on the links it took to the app store to download the game and when clicking on the icon it took me to a page with a description of their game.

Compare the impact of traditional advertising (in newspapers, magazines, billboards, radio, TV, etc.) to advertising done on Social Media. Which seems more effective to you?

For the most part I never interact with ads, wether it be on social or on traditional, its very rare for me to do something like that. However, I am more inclined to look up or check ads that are on social as I am browsing but for me personally I never look up an ad on the traditional advertising. What is interesting that I do remember a lot more of traditional advertising, especially if they have catchy jingles. For the most part I think that social is a much better way to spend ad dollars and it is usually much more economical than traditional advertising. Traditional advertising does have benefits as a large amount of people are usually hearing or watching those mediums. The problem is that most of those people will never buy from you. Where as on social media you target the people that are more likely to purchase what you have to offer. The different platforms offer advertisers different potential clients and ways to get their brand out there. For a small business I belive the most effective way to advertise is through social media, it is much more cost effective and you can target exactly the people that are more likely going to buy from you and have a much better ROI.
