Week 11: Marketing with Twitter, LinkedIn, Social Influencers

LinkedIn and Twitter the other social media platforms. Not as talked about, are they of any use? Well, it depends on what you are trying to achieve and a few other factors, but let's take a look at how Twitter's platform works and how it can be beneficial to a business. I personally have never used this platform and I just created a Twitter to have for my business which is @MediaWulv. I have not made a LinkedIn but will probably create one soon.

Let's start with Twitter which was created with everything being public so it is great to connect with people and businesses. However, Twitter is usually known as the platform that people go to rant about certain businesses and how they were treated or how they feel about it. A recent example that I just heard about the other day was a celebrity found shrimp ends in one of the cereals that he had purchased. He took to Twitter which then the company that makes that cereal reached out to him, but in front of the whole internet. This was going on in front of everyone and no doubt sales of this cereal dipped because of this. However, the point being is that you can either make it or break it because of Twitter, if people have a lot of good things to say about your company it can be beneficial. If they don't have good things to say then that can become an issue and spread like wildfire.

When creating a Twitter or for that matter any social media platform for your brand or company you want to make sure to make it look professional. Choosing the right logo and placing the right header adds to the feel of professionalism. It's not just that, when it comes down to choosing a Handle many recommended not to add numbers to it which is so true when you look at handles with numbers on it detracts from the professionalism. There are different ways that you can play around with it to find an available handle and keep a professional look to it. Adding everything about your company is what will also help show that this brand is legit and professional which is something all brands should keep in mind when creating or maintaining an account for any social network.

What should you post on Twitter? Well, videos get better engagement than pictures do however there are limits to the videos such as how long the video is, the resolution, and frame rate. However, even though you can post a video that is up to 2 minutes and 20 seconds you have to understand how Twitter is used, when someone is using it they are receiving bit size content and just scrolling endlessly. If you have a long video people are more likely to just scroll past it and not get that far into the video. I'm sure you are going to want to use hashtags with your post. Unlike Instagram, it doesn't hide it if you go down far enough to hid hashtags, putting to many can hog up a tweet and make it look unprofessional, it is recommended to only add 3 hashtags.

Even though Twitter is not the biggest social media platform using it can be beneficial to your company/brand. Of course, every company is different so using what is best for your company will always work best however Twitter is a great way to engage with clients or potential clients one on one but with the world watching. Personally, I don't think it is the best place for my company as we are more of a media company but it definitely something to have and use but not my first choice.
